LOCATION AND ENVIRONMENT

Westline Aviation CC is an aviation related company residing at the New Tempe Airport outside Bloemfontein. (S29 01 57.70, E26 09 28.80) Westline has also established satellite bases at Wonderboom Airport, Dragon Peaks Park (Central Drakensberg) and Cathedral Peak Hotel (Central Drakensberg).

The airport comprises of two asphalt surface runways for normal usage as well as two glider strips and parallel taxi/micro-light landing strips next to the main runways. New Tempe Airport is situated in uncontrolled airspace and the Bloemfontein general flying area is within five minutes flying to the North. Unlike Johannesburg or other cities on the coast, Bloemfontein has excellent flying conditions and the weather (average 27 days raining per year) is very seldom responsible for flight cancellations. Bloemfontein has 12 hours of daylight available for training in the summer and 10 hours in winter.

Westline Aviation has been active at the Tempe Airport for the past twelve years and has various functions such as airport management, fuel supply, training and charter, all of which will be described in more detail.

AIRFIELD LAYOUT

CERTIFICATION

The company is a registered training and charter operator under licence of the South African CAA. The SACAA is ICAO compliant and as such caters for the JAR as well as FAA systems of training. The most recent FAA rating of the SA system has been most favourable. It is possible for the company to adjust training to fully comply with course content of either system. Flight training hours are normally adjusted to suit international client requirements. The full range of single, multi, IF and advanced helicopter training are catered for. SACAA curriculum is available on www.caa.co.za . All accredited ATO’s are in line with the new Part 61 as published.

The company operates 14 aircraft for various charter purposes and has operations in two different locations.
